Suspense growing over Kenosha casino decision

CREATED Oct. 28, 2013

MILWAUKEE - Suspense over whether Governor Scott Walker will approve a new casino in Kenosha has a lot of people watching and waiting.

Those include current Potawatomi customers who say increased competition over their patronage could help them score bigger jackpots and larger perks.

"I think it will be better you know, we'll have a variety of places to go, we don't have to come here," said Carol Tillis.

The Shorewood woman comes to Potawatomi two to three times a week and supports a Kenosha casino.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett feels otherwise. He spoke out against the proposed casino during an event at the Potawatomi Casino Friday.

"Were very concerned because of the number of jobs here," he said.

The Mayor said it's not only jobs that could be lost. He said a loss of revenue at Potawatomi would mean lower tax revenue for the city and county.

Governor Walker could make his decision to approve or deny the casino sometime this week.
