MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Madison police say a group of middle-school students on a field trip found a body floating in a lagoon.
A police spokesman says students discovered the fully-clothed body floating about eight feet offshore in Warner Park lagoon Friday afternoon.
The body appears to be male. The Dane County medical examiner's office will determine how long the body was in the water and the cause of death.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports a small group of eighth-grade students from Sherman Middle School and supervising staff spotted the body.
The students returned immediately to school and received support from the student services team, according to a letter the Madison School District sent to parents and guardians of Sherman students.
