Special election set for Jeff Stone's seat
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker has called a special election for Dec. 17 to fill the state Assembly seat most recently held by Jeff Stone, a Republican from Greendale.
Walker on Tuesday announced that people interested in running for the 82nd District Assembly seat near Milwaukee have until Oct. 22 to circulate nomination papers. A primary will be held Nov. 19, if necessary.
Stone announced two weeks ago that he was stepping down after 15 years in the Assembly to take a job with the Public Service Commission.
The opening came after former Assembly Republican Majority Leader Scott Suder declined to take the job in favor of working as a lobbyist for the paper industry.
Special elections to fill Suder's seat and one vacated by Mark Honadel are scheduled for Nov. 19.
