Snow just around the corner for southeast Wisconsin

CREATED Oct. 21, 2013

MILWAUKEE - Southeast Wisconsin will be under a Freeze Warning tonight for the first time of the young fall season.

Sensitive outdoor plants and vegetation will be killed during the freeze, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures are expected to drop to as low as 28 degrees in Milwaukee and even colder further inland.

That first freeze means the first snowfall probably won't be too far behind - and one area ski facility is taking advantage of the cold temps to prepare for winter. Sunburst Winter Sports Park plans on starting its snowmaking operations Monday.

"Were taking advantage of this week's unusual cold snap -- revving our equipment with the hopes of opening the park in the next few days," says Rob Friedl, co-CEO, Sunburst Winter Sports Park.  "Within a few cold nights, weather permitting, we hope to get people out on the snow to enjoy the terrain and get excited for the season to begin -- we are definitely ready."
