MILWAUKEE - The signs of summer are fading fast but the signs of fall and even Christmas are here.
There are 57 days until Halloween and 112 days until Christmas but who’s counting right? Retailers are and that’s why the big pumpkin stores are now open.
If you think it’s really scary stores are already selling Halloween costumes the day after Labor Day – you’re probably not the store manager at Halloween Express.
“We open about this time every year. In fact as soon as we do, we get people in her right away,” said Shannon Tracy.
The store manager says customers have come to expect the big pumpkin stores in September.
“Oh yeah, especially State Fair because that is so iconic everybody has seen that every year. I think when they find us here they are going to be surprised.
Their new location is 27th and Howard. Tracey says the whole point is to plant a seed with shoppers to start buying early before popular costumes sell out.
Ironically, when he was told about a Christmas store opening soon in Brookfield he thought that was early.
“Yeah that’s a bit much,” said Tracy. “That would be kind of like shopping for your Halloween costume in June.”
Stores like CVS Pharmacy also have Halloween items for sale and they expect their early Christmas decorations to arrive in a couple of weeks.
