Should Racine Co. be part of potential arena tax?

By the Associated Press. CREATED Oct 15, 2013

RACINE, Wis. (AP) -- The person tasked with putting together a study group on a new Milwaukee arena and possible financing options says Racine County shouldn't be part of any potential regional tax.

Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce president Tim Sheehy says he recently delivered that message to Racine County Executive Jim Ladwig.

Sheehy says it's his own opinion and that he's not speaking on behalf of the association or the arena task force.

Ladwig tells the Journal Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1aIFDe5 ) that Sheehy's words are "music" to his ears.

Sheehy says Racine County is technically not part of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Racine County was included in the five-county regional tax for Miller Park. The ballpark tax, imposed in 1996, could end in 2017, depending on the economy.
