Sens. Johnson, Baldwin to remember Sikh victims

CREATED Aug. 2, 2013

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Wisconsin's U.S. senators are among the scheduled speakers at a remembrance of last year's Sikh temple shooting.

Sens. Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin are expected to be at the federal courthouse in Milwaukee on Friday. They'll be part of a special observance ahead of Monday's one-year anniversary of the shooting.

A white supremacist had walked into the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek and killed six worshippers and injured five others. He died in a gun battle with police.

The anniversary events begin with the courthouse remembrance. Oak Creek's mayor and members of the U.S. Department of Justice will also speak.

Also on Friday, temple officials will begin religious ceremonies that will run through the weekend. A candlelight vigil will be held Monday night.
