Public forums help those confused by Affordable Care Act

MILWAUKEE - “When I saw this letter that I’m not going to be able to keep the coverage any longer, I was really frustrated,” said Cindy Hapanowicz.

She worked for S.C. Johnson for about 30 years.  she saved up to retire and keep her Cadillac health insurance plan.  She got a letter in the mail from S.C. Johnson saying because of the new law and a 40 percent excise tax on Cadillac plans, her plan was no longer available.

“It was only $1000 deductible, and now I’m going to be forced to move to a $2500 a year deductible plan.  On a fixed income, that’s a lot of money,” Hapanowicz said.

She was planning on having surgery on her wrist to help with her arthritis; a surgery she’s reconsidering

“It means I’m going to have to think twice about getting things done, how bad do I really need it?”

S.C. Johnson says like many companies, it’s no longer affordable for them to offer the Cadillac plans.
