Police respond to tactical situation in New Berlin

UPDATE 8:45 a.m.: A man was taken into custody at 7:15 a.m. Friday after barricading himself inside a New Berlin home for four hours in the 3300 block of Heide Lane, causing more than two dozen police and a SWAT team members to respond.

The 40-year-old man was wanted on a felony probation warrant and was believed to be armed, according to a release from the New Berlin Police Department.

Police said the home housed numerous weapons;  including rifles, shotguns and handguns and that the subject had a lengthy criminal history, including possession of weapons, endangering safety with a dangerous weapon and drug charges.

No injuries were reported and the case remains under investigation.

UPDATE 7:39 a.m.: The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office tells TODAY'S TMJ4 that the tactical situation has ended.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.

UPDATE 7:24 a.m.: Police have now shut down West Coffee Road, according to TODAY'S TMJ4's Jonah Kaplan.

He said more than two dozen police and a SWAT team members are on the scene with two armored vehicles battling dangerous cold this morning.

One resident said there has been a police presence since 10 p.m. Thursday.

NEW BERLIN -- Police are responding to a possible tactical situation in New Berlin.

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office tells TODAY'S TMJ4 a man considered dangerous has barricaded himself inside a home at 3370 S. Heide Lane. Police said there are other people in the residence.

Officials said several dead-end streets will remain closed, including Lynette, Heide, and Dena Streets.
 
Police said residents living in homes on these streets will not be able to leave, and are  asked to stay put for their own safety.
