GREAT LAKES, Ill. - The Navy Yard shooter trained at Great Lakes Naval Station, just south of the Wisconsin border.
"When I was watching, it kind of shook me," says Abraham Edwards.
Edwards has been going to Flanagan's for the past two decades. The popular bar and grill is just a mile or two from the Great Lakes Naval Station - and a place Abraham remembers seeing DC shooter Aaron Alexis years ago.
"When I first saw the picture it kind of jumped out at me," remembers Edwards. "I actually talked to a buddy of mine earlier about the picture and he hadn't heard about the shootings and I texted him a picture of the guy and he was like ‘yeah, he does look familiar.’"
Alexis trained at the Great Lakes station back in 2007. Abraham remembers him coming into Flanagan's in his fatigues, like so many others. Abraham tells Today’s TMJ4 nothing about Alexis really stood out - until now.
"Everyone comes together when something like this happens and hopefully nobody tries to politicize it and go that route with it. I think everyone should pray for the families and the victims," Edwards says.
We reached out to the Great Lakes Naval Station. They had no comment.
