Milwaukee County clerk hopes to restart marriages

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee County Clerk Joe Czarnezki says he hopes to begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples again soon.

Czarnezki issued licenses to couples to marry in June after a federal judge declared Wisconsin's ban on gay marriage unconstitutional. His office stopped issuing licenses after the judge put her order on hold a week later.
Czarnezki said Thursday that he hopes to starting issuing licenses again soon after a federal appeals court upheld the judge's decision. But he says he's waiting for legal advice because there are some questions about the court's decision.
Czarnezki says it's his intention "to start issuing same-sex marriage licenses as soon as I can."
