Man admits to fracturing 8-week-old daughter's skull
LA CROSSE - A man is being accused of crushing his 8-week-old baby's skull after giving investigators multiple versions of what happened.
Robert Schmidt, 21, admitted to hitting his infant daughter with his elbow when she wouldn't stop crying, according to the La Crosse Tribune. Schmidt brought the baby to the hospital Sunday morning, and told a social worker she had rolled over in her bassinet.
Schmidt later said the girl was injured when he was getting out of bed and hit her head on the table. He then changed his story again and said he was in bed, and frustrated she was fussy. He rolled over "angrily" when his elbow accidentally hit her.
The baby was brought to the hospital with a fractured skull and bleeding brain.
Assistant District Attorney Michelle Keller said they are awaiting medical tests to determine what charges will be filed.
