MPD detective grazed by bullet during exchange with person of interest in homicide

By James Kust. CREATED Jun 19, 2014 - UPDATED: Jun 19, 2014

MILWAUKEE - A Milwaukee Police detective was grazed by a bullet Thursday afternoon during an exchange with a person of interest in a homicide case.

It happened just after 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the 5200 block of N. Teutonia, on Milwaukee's north side.

Police say the suspect fired several rounds at the detectives, which the detectives returned. The suspect, a 21-year-old Milwaukee man, then ran south on Teutonia and threw his gun away on the front lawn of a home. He was apprehended shortly thereafter.

The suspect is considered a person of interest in a homicide earlier this week at the US Gas Station on N. Green Bay Avenue.

The detective who was grazed is 35 years old, and has 17 years of service with MPD.
