Lawmakers continue to work on school voucher deal

By Associated Press. CREATED Nov 23, 2013

MADISON (AP) -- Students receiving taxpayer-subsidized vouchers to attend private schools would have their test results and other performance information detailed on report cards starting in 2015 under the latest version of a bill being worked on in the Wisconsin Legislature.

Current law doesn't require private schools to report the data for five more years -- even if they receive public money.

Meanwhile, Republican Sen. Glenn Grothman has proposed exempting private schools from all reporting requirements if they don't want to make the information public.

Grothman says parents have chosen private schools for hundreds of years without government help, and they don't need it now.
