Gov. Walker: don't expect gay marriage in Wisconsin anytime soon
MILWAUKEE - Governor Scott Walker says not to expect gay marriage to be legal in Wisconsin anytime soon.
Walker was pushed on the issue while meeting with the nation's other governor's this past weekend. Wisconsin's ban on same-sex unions is part of the state's constitution, and Walker says change wouldn't be easy.
"To change anything in the constitution, not just that, it requires two consecutive sessions of the legislature, and ultimately, a vote of the people,” Gov. Walker said. “I just don't see that being an issue that's going to be addressed anytime soon."
Minnesota recently legalized gay marriages, with the first weddings happening last week.
