Female inmates quilt baby blankets for Children's Hospital
MILWAUKEE - Correctional Officers and staff from the Milwaukee County House of Correction are delivering dozens of hand quilted baby blankets, mittens and hats to Children's Hospital on Friday morning.
The baby items, made from donated yarn and needles, were hand quilted by female inmates at HOC. The quilting initiative is part of the HOC's approach to educate, treat and provide programming to inmates to help them be successful when they enter the community.
According to a new study from the RAND Corporation, inmates who take part in education and training like this behind bars are far less likely to return to prison.
