Two gas leaks caused by construction crews force evacuations Tuesday

MILWAUKEE - WeEnergies reported a gas leak Tuesday morning in Wauwatosa where a contractor hit a gas line in the 1000 block of North Mayfair Road. Wauwatosa Police notified WeEnergies about the incident, and they are working to make repairs.
According to WisDOT, WIS 100 has now been reopened in both directions between Watertown Plank Road and Wisconsin Avenue.
Another gas main was struck near 27th and Michigan causing buildings to be evacuated.
WeEnergies reports that the line was hit by construction crews just after 9 a.m. Tuesday. According to Milwaukee Police, nearby buildings within a 2 1/2 block radius of the leak were evacuated as a precaution.
The incident was near the ribbon cutting for the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families, where Gov. Scott Walker was in attendance.
WeEnergies is currently working on repairing the line.
