JUNEAU - Tuesday marks five years since a farmer found a dead baby in a garbage bag in rural Dodge County.
Investigators named the infant 'Baby Theresa' because the body was abandoned in the Town of Theresa.
Detective Vickie Brugger of the Dodge County Sheriff's Office keeps a sketch of the baby near her desk.
"I'm still asking the mother to come forward and tell her side of the story," she told TODAY'S TMJ4 reporter Tom Murray. "There's a lot of people, including myself, that want to know why this baby was put in the garbage bag in the woods."
Baby Theresa was found on Lone Road less than a mile from STH 175 and less than three miles from US 41.
Investigators did DNA tests and ruled out anyone who lives nearby as the parents.
Baby Theresa is buried in a donated grave at Lowell Cemetery.
After an exhaustive autopsy, it is believed the full-term, eight-pound baby never took a breath of air.
"The medical examiner does not believe that the child was intentionally killed," Brugger said. "If there is a friend out there, that knows who the mother is, don't be afraid you're going to get your friend in trouble for a homicide."
Anyone with information about the identity of the biological mother of Baby Theresa is asked to contact Detective Vickie Brugger at 920-386-3715 or Medical Examiner PJ Schoebel at 920-386- 3941.
