PEWAUKEE - The Waukesha Sheriff's department confirms that the man who jumped from a quarry Saturday night has died in the hospital.
A Sheriff's deputy was injured in trying to rescue the man, but he has left the hospital in good condition. There's no word when he'll retun to duty.
It began late Saturday night at the Waukesha Lime & Stone Co. on Highway F, just off Bluemound Road.
Family members told authorities that the 23-year-old man was at the quarry and was suicidal.
When deputies arrived they found the man had rammed his car through the fence and was standing at the edge of the quarry.
Deputies then tried to negotiate with him according to Capt. Michelle Larsuel of the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department.
But those negotiations stopped and the man jumped off the edge into the quarry.
Due to the icy conditions, crews had some difficulty getting to the man.
