Deer falls into Wis. church basement, creates mess
JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- Officials at a Janesville church are cleaning up after a six-point buck smashed through a window, fell into the basement and scrambled wildly in a futile effort to escape.
A Janesville Gazette report says a veterinarian eventually euthanized it.
The events happened Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church, where Andrew Moffitt is a youth pastor. He says the deer apparently leaned against the window, causing it to give way. Somehow the animal fell into the basement.
Moffitt says the deer was spurting blood as it crashed into bookshelves, trying to climb into the ceiling tiles to escape. He says it had to be euthanized because its injuries were so severe.
Children were in classes in Sunday school classes in adjacent rooms. Moffitt says he's grateful things weren't worse.
