Our nation's colors shine bright through dark skies of 9/11 tribute

MILWAUKEE -- America today marks 12 years since the 2001 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. People across the country, and here at home, will pay tribute to all the victims.

Here in Milwaukee, hundreds gathered at the War Memorial for a tribute that included laying wreaths, a gunshot-salute and a rendition of "Taps."

Despite the tough subject (and gloomy weather), though, many folks we spoke with say they found today's tribute uplifting.

Everyone who attended received an American flag - courtesy of Wisconsin's own Eder Flag Company.

"The flag is the symbol of everything we stand for," exclaimed Maj. Gwendolyn Sheppard (Ret.), a veteran who served in Iraq. "I see those stars on there and I think of every state in the union that's represented on that flag."

Eder Flag Co., based in Oak Creek, produces 5 million flags a year, and company officials say they're all hand-crafted.

Eder's flags currently fly above bases, buildings and cities across the country. One of its flags even flew above Ground Zero in one of the most iconic images from September 11, 2011.

"9/11 brought on a surge of patriotism," Eder's chief operatier Jodi Goglio tells TODAY'S TMJ4. "I hope it continues."
