WAUWATOSA - A bomb squad was called to a Wauwatosa Kmart store Tuesday, just more than 24 hours after bomb threats closed multiple Walgreens stores in the area.
The store is located near North Mayfair Road and West Burleigh Street in Wauwatosa.
The threat called into the Kmart was the same type of threat called in to multiple Walgreens stores, according to the Wauwatosa Police Department. Police say a caller with a Middle Eastern accent said he had placed a bomb in the store and would set it off if an employee did not put $500 on a prepaid debit card.
Kmart closed and evacuated the store. The Sheriff's department arrived with a bomb-sniffing dog but found nothing suspicious.
At least two area Walgreens stores were closed Monday due to bomb threats. That may be part of a nationwide scam, according to the FBI.
A Kmart store near Chicago was also recently evacuated due to a bomb threat.
