MARIN, CA -- Comedian and actor Robin Williams has been found dead in his home, the victim of an apparent suicide by asphyxiation.
Fans and comics from around the world have been expressing shock and sadness at his sudden passing. Waukesha native Frank Caliendo says Williams was his boyhood idol.
“That was the guy I wanted to be like,” Caliendo said. “He and Jonathan Winters were huge influences on what I do… His style was so different from anything anybody else was doing.”
Williams’ connection to Milwaukee goes deeper than performances and press interviews. His second wife, Marsha Garces, was born in Milwaukee and graduated from Shorewood High School. They were married for 17 years.
Williams’ publicist says the actor was battling severe depression for which he was seeking treatment.
