Police ID 'person of interest' in Dodge Co. homicide

By Michele Fiore. CREATED Aug 25, 2014 - UPDATED: Aug 26, 2014

RANDOLPH, Wis - An apartment building manager found a tenant dead after the man hadn't been seen for days.  The Dodge County Sheriff's Office is now looking for a person of interest in the case.

The victim was found in an apartment in the Town of Randolph at the intersection of Highways 73 and 33, a usually quiet area with corn fields. But, neighbors say they've had their eye on these transient apartments for some time and to hear a murder was discovered here doesn't surprise them

Forty three year old Michael Soeller may have lived along, but he had friends in the building.

"He'd go to a party here and there with the managers and stuff like that," said Charles Helsinger Junior.

It was actually the building manager who discovered Soeller dead Sunday.  Police say he lost a lot of blood, but wouldn't say how he was killed.

"So you're shocked to hear about his death? Yea, I was terrified this morning when I found out from the police department," said Helsinger.

Police are now searching for a woman, seen on store surveillance and on an artist's sketch.  She may have been the last to see Soeller alive. Helsinger wonders if the two met online. He says his neighbor was on some dating websites, but questions her involvement.

"She's a small lady. I mean, there's no way that a small lady can take a 6'5" or 6'6" person down like that. So, there has to be two people involved," said Helsinger.

It's a sad time for those who knew the quiet giant.

Michael Soeller did general production for Richelieu Foods since January. Co-workers describe him as quiet, but super dependable.

The Soeller family released a statement saying Michael "loved to hunt and enjoyed country music." They're "mourning his loss and praying the truth will come out."

Michael Soeller's funeral will be held Friday at Hillside Assembly in Ripon where he grew up.
