Anonymous benefactor pledges $10 million to Marquette University
MILWAUKEE – An anonymous benefactor has pledged $10 million to Marquette University.
The gift will fund a new on-campus residence for its community of Jesuit priests and will support need-based scholarships, interim president Rev. Robert A. Wild said in a news release Monday morning.
The new facility will be located in the center of campus in the 1400 block of Wells Street. It will include a chapel at its center, the release said.
Marquette’s current Jesuit Residence in the 1400 block of West Wisconsin Avenue was built in 1916. It will be torn down to increase green space and reduce surface level parking.
The project will total $15 million and will be funded entirely from donations, the release said.
Construction will begin after an additional $7.5 million is raised.
