HALES CORNERS - A Bartolotta Fireworks technician is recovering after he got hurt on the Fourth of July.

The horrible accident happened just minutes after the fireworks went off. TODAY’S TMJ4 just got the 911 calls and the police report.

It states the technician lit a launch tube, but it didn't shoot into the air as it was supposed to. Instead, it went off inside the launch tube and caused an explosion.

The technician reported that the next thing he remembered was being thrown to the ground. Police on scene were there within minutes. They report the technician had major shrapnel wounds to his chest area, and his left eyebrow was completely burned off.

He was taken to Froedert Hospital for a leg fracture. His company tells TODAY’S TMJ4 that he is recovering. The fireworks show was cancelled and rescheduled for August 6.
