MILWAUKEE - 23 defendants were indicted in federal court Tuesday in connection with a large drug trafficking organization that is accused of selling cocaine and heroin on Milwaukee's south side for years, according to a U.S. Department of Justice release.

Officers arrested 19 of the defendants Tuesday. 4 were already in custody. Search warrants were executed at seven separate locations, where officers seized approximately $300,000 and five weapons.

DOJ documents show the leaders of the organization were Victor, Geraldo, and Praxedes Reyes. The three brothers are responsible for distributing "multiple kilograms of heroin per month". According to the report, the brothers may also be responsible for at least one heroin overdose death.

"The U.S. Attorney's Office and federal law enforcement have been valuable and reliable partners with the Milwaukee Police Department in reducing violent crime and drug trafficking in Milwaukee," said Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn. "Today's operation demonstrates their continued cooperation to our partnership."
