FRANKLIN -- Ken Wiske and Lauren Molitor have been an item at Franklin High School for more than two years, though they never held hands in the hallway until Tuesday night.
After what they did last week, they thought, why not go for it?
"The kids went crazy," Molitor said, remembering the moment when the school's homecoming pep rally turned into a sneak-attack proposal. "I think they knew what was going on before I did."
Wiske and Molitor are teachers and coaches who met at the school and have dated for a little more than two years.
It was time, Wiske said, to take the relationship to the next level. So he recruited a team of about 30 teachers and students to help pull off the surprise engagement.
In the middle of the rally, he ran to the front of the gym while his fellow teachers help up signs.
One by one they spelled out his question: Miss. Molitor. Will. You. Marry. Me?
Amid the screaming of the student body, Molitor missed the message on those signs. She only realized this was the moment when her football coach boyfriend took a knee.
"I actually didn't even see the signs that the held up," she said. "Then when I saw him with flowers and a microphone, I was like oh my gosh. this is not really happening."
It was happening.
He slipped a ring on her finger and the crowd goes wild.
The couple is planning a summer 2014 wedding, the best to accommodate their schedules as teachers.
