HALES CORNERS - St. Mary's Catholic Faith Community is in the process of adding a columbarium to its cemetery. But in the process, a contractor did a few things that had those with loved ones buried at the cemetery asking questions.
"Here are some markers laying here," says Jim Walter.
Corner markers tossed about, grass removed over grave sites to make way for a pathway - these are just some of the images that disturbed Walter as he visits his loved ones at St. Mary's Cemetery.
We contacted St. Mary's Catholic Church to get some answers.
Church Administrator Ron Gilles tells TODAY'S TMJ4 the church recently started construction on a new columbarium, but shortly after work began questions arose with the contractor's work.
"Once we saw this was encroaching we stopped all work," says Gilles. "No further we have to do the right thing or be respectful."
Because of the confusion, the church is now modifying its plans and shortening the pathway. The project is scheduled to be complete by August 1st.
