KEWAUNEE - First responders were called the scene after a car went into the water near Lakeshore Drive before 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
"From what we found out they were camping in a local campground," said Kewaunee Police Chief Frank Salentine, about the people who were in the car.
Salentine confirmed a 5-year-old boy was pulled out of the water by campers who were staying nearby at Salmon Harbor Marina and Campground in Kewaunee.
"We heard a crash and I looked over across the harbor and noticed that a van had flew off the edge of the road," said Rafel King.
The boy was then taken to the hospital where he was reunited with his mother, who was not in the car. The search turned to the boy’s father, a man in his 40s, but his body was later pulled from the water.
Authorities are currently working on pulling the car out. Kewaunee Police say it is unclear how the car ended up in the water.
