MILWAUKEE - Rescue crews have taken a boy to a Milwaukee-area hospital after a car struck him.

The crash happened near the corner of North 20th and West State Streets at about 1:00 p.m. Wednesday.

According to initial reports, a four-year-old boy was with family, but darted between parked cars and into traffic, and a car traveling westbound on State Street hit him.

The driver of the car, a 47-year-old woman, stayed on the scene.

Witnesses said she was going the speed limit.

"The car was coming.  His body flew in the air and he hit the ground," said a witness to TODAY'S TMJ4's Annie Scholz.

The boy has been transported to Children's Hospital.  Annie reports the boy's condition is improving.

Milwaukee Police say it appeared to be an accident.
