Milwaukee celebrates Juneteenth Day

MILWAUKEE - June 19 marks the anniversary of final abolition of slaves in Texas in 1865, and has been celebrated as Juneteenth Day since then.
Milwaukee has been celebrating the day since at least as far back as the 1970s, and this year is no different. According to OnMilwaukee, this year's even will include "kids' games, exhibits, soul food, music, a parade and more."
The event begins at 9 a.m. on Dr. Martin Luther King Drive between Burleigh and Center Streets, and runs until 6 p.m.
