MILWAUKEE - One of the suspects in the murder case of a transgender rapper from Milwaukee pleaded guilty to the crime on Wednesday.
Evon Young went missing on New Year's Day, the victim of an apparent homicide. His roommate initially said Young left on his own on Jan. 1, but police later questioned the story.
Victor Stewart is a member of a gang that Young also belonged to. Billy Griffin, Young's roommate, later said that Stewart had arrived at their home, along with three other gang members, saying Young could no longer be trusted.
Griffin said they took him to the basement and choked, beat and then shot him. They then wrapped him in a sheet and put him in a car. Investigators have searched a landfill but never found Young's body.
Griffin, Stewart, and the three other gang members were all initially charged with First-Degree Intentional Homicide. Stewart pleaded guilty Wednesday to Second-Degree Reckless Homicide. He will be sentenced July 23.
