MILWAUKEE - The son of a former Milwaukee County judge has been sentenced to life in a mental health facility.
James Donegan was found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect of killing a 45-year-old mother in 2012.
Donegan already pleaded no contest to murder charges, but he appeared in a Milwaukee County Court Monday.
Those in court found out about Donegan's mental health condition after he was ordered to undergo an evaluation last September.
Donegan is the son of former judge Tom Donegan, who says James has mental health problems and was not taking his medication.
James pleaded no contest to killing Teresa Boone.
Police say Boone was strangled and stabbed at Reservoir Park in Milwaukee's Riverwest neighborhood.
Police believe robbery was his motive.
However, according to the criminal complaint, Donegan got rid of Boone's purse and knife after committing the crmie.
Investigators were later able to find the purse.
