OKLAHOMA CITY - After a massive tornado caused destruction across Moore, Okla., the Red Cross is asking for your help.
TODAY'S TMJ4 hosted a Red Cross phone bank for a second day on Wednesday to help tornado victims.
Thanks to your efforts Tuesday and Wednesday, we raised $126,900 for the Red Cross' relief efforts for Oklahoma!
Wednesday exceeded Tuesday's numbers. Here are the final totals -
Tuesday - $61,309
Wednesday - $65,681
The Red Cross uses the money to provide the most basic things, like food and water. People in Oklahoma devastated by the tornado don't have that right now.
The American Red Cross has one shelter open in Moore and is working on locating others and continues to operate three shelters that were opened Sunday in the Oklahoma City area following the storms over the weekend.
In addition to feeding people who were impacted by the storm, the Red Cross also feeds the first responders who are helping them.
More than 25 emergency response vehicles are positioned to move at first light Tuesday, and we expect that the number will increase.
Southeastern Wisconsin's Red Cross is sending an emergency response vehicle.
"They'll drive it down there, then this will be used to feed people in the community," said Sara Bruesewitz to TODAY'S TMJ4.
The Red Cross is also sending in kitchen support trailers to support the upcoming operation to provide meals to those forced out of their homes.
Bruesewitz says the red Cross has been inundated with offers to assist.
"Immediately after the tornado hit, we've been receiving calls. Everybody wants to do their part and help out."
She also explained that donated items are not necessary at this point.
"We spend the whole year gearing up for disasters, so we have warehouses throughout the United States that are stocked and ready to go when disasters happen," said Bruesewitz.
