Woman who tried to give her baby away to police found not competent to stand trial
MILWAUKEE - A woman who allegedly threw her baby on the sidewalk near her house has been ruled not competent to stand trial.
On Tuesday, Feb. 12, a neighbor of Jasmine Oliver's noticed her outside her home with her one-year-old child lying facedown on the ground next to her, not moving or crying. The neighbor and his sister then report they saw Oliver pick her child up by the coat and throw her back down, face-first on the concrete.
When police showed up, she told them she no longer wanted her child. She was charged with two counts of physical abuse of a child, substantial battery and child abandonment.
On Monday, May 13, a court ruled that Oliver "does lack the compacity to understand the court proceedings. Oliver has been handed over to the Department of Health and Family Services for Institutional Care.
