MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee County's board is setting up for the potential of a lawsuit over a state law that could dramatically cut the board.
A County Board committee is backing a plan to hire outside legal counsel for advice on a state plan that could result in the board being cut dramatically.
The County Board chairwoman also tells the Journal Sentinel the county wants advice on how to implement the state law if it passes.
The plan moving through the state would force a referendum, letting voters decide whether to limit the board's budget to 40% of the county's budget.
The board is also pushing a plan to reduce itself, which is not as drastic as the state plan.
