Waukesha residents evacuated Thursday after grenade found

WAUKESHA - Police evacuated residents in Waukesha around the area of the 300 block of Wilson Avenue Thursday afternoon.
"At approximately 3:47 p.m., the Waukesha Police and Fire Departments responded to the 300 block of Wilson Avenue for a report of an explosive device located in front of a residence," said Sgt. Joe Hendricks with Waukesha Police. "The device was described as a military style grenade and was located in the driveway of a residence."
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's office said their EOD (explosive ordinates department) was sent to the scene.
Just before 6 p.m., the Milwaukee County Bomb Squad arrived on scene and "rendered the explosive device safe." The bomb squad took custody of the explosive device and this investigation is ongoing.
