MILWAUKEE - A man accused of killing a woman's unborn child in his car has been charged with negligent homicide.
Donovan Walker-Hall, 23 of Milwaukee, was driving northbound on Martin Luther King Drive when he hit a car going southbound, which caused his GMC to drive onto the sidewalk and hit a pedestrian. His SUV ended up in the BP parking lot.
The victim was nine months pregnant at the time, and her baby did not survive the crash.
Milwaukee Police downloaded the GMC's event data recorder and found that it was going 56 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone. Walker-Hall was driving on a suspended license, and has prior convictions for Operating Without a License and 10 convictions for Operation After Suspension.
According to a doctor at Froedtert, he believes the baby died of blunt force trauma injuries caused by the crash.
When Walker-Hall was interviewed, he said he was trying to make the yellow light but the car in front of him stopped, so he "cut his vehicle to the right", attempting to make the light and avoid hitting the car in front of him.
Walker-Hall has been charged with Homicide by Negligent Operation of a Vehicle-Unborn Child, Duty Upon Striking Person (Great Bodily Harm), Knowingly Operating a Motor Vehicle While Suspended - Causing Great Bodily Harm and Reckless Driving (Causing Great Bodily Harm).
