GREEN BAY - With the face of the franchise, QB Aaron Rodgers, signed through 2019, the Packers may have just added the new legs of the franchise's running game. They also have 10 more picks to make Saturday.
In the second round of the NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers have picked up Alabama RB Eddie Lacy.
The team traded their 23rd pick in the round with the San Francisco 49ers for the 29th pick.
"With the 61st overall pick of the draft, following a trade back with the 49ers, the Packers addressed their short-yardage problems of a year ago by selecting pounding Alabama running back Eddie Lacy," the team said.
"Lacy had been a wish-list player of Packers fans since he ran wild against Notre Dame in the national championship game. Lacy, 6-0, 220, likely fell to the bottom of the second round as a result of not being able to work out at the combine or at his pro day due to a hamstring injury."
The Packers said last year they had the league’s 20th-ranked running game.
For the Packers pick in the third round, they traded to the 49ers. According to TODAY'S TMJ4's Lance Allen, the Packers' trade with the 49ers get them the #93 in 3rd round and #216 in 7th round.
They later traded the 93rd pick to the Dolphins.
Packers General Manager Ted Thompson traded back in the third round for the second time on Friday, Thompson’s third trade of the day," the team said. "The Packers sent the 93rd overall pick to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for the Dolphins’ fourth (109), fifth (146) and seventh-round 224) picks."
