GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Packers have waived running back Brandon Saine, his agent Joe Flanagan told the Journal Sentinel.
According to Tyler Dunne with the newspaper, Saine did not pass his physical.
"It was going to be an uphill battle for Saine in 2013," Dunne said. "At the position, the Packers return DuJuan Harris, Alex Green and James Starks, three backs who all played well in spurts last year. Unrestricted free agent Cedric Benson, who began 2012 as the No. 1 back, visited with Green Bay Wednesday. If his recovery from a Lisfranc injury suffered Oct. 7 at Indianapolis checked out with the Packers -- and a video posted by Benson working out in Texas was encouraging -- maybe the veteran returns."
Saine missed all of the 2012 season with a torn ACL. He was injured in Week 6, but didn't "carry the ball" at all before that.
"A rookie the year prior, the 5-foot-11, 220-pound back showed promise late in Green Bay's 15-1 regular season with 69 rushing yards on 18 attempts and 10 receptions for 69 yards," Dunne said.
