Bucks team physician safe after running the Boston Marathon

MILWAUKEE - Dr. Michael Gordon, a physician from Milwaukee, was running the Boston Marathon on Monday. He spoke with TODAY'S TMJ4's Lance Allan after the explosion.

"We had just finished and we were a couple blocks away when we hear a big explosion, almost like a truck backfired," he said. "We started making our way back to the hotel and word started coming around."

Dr. Gordon and his party finished the race before the explosion, but are still worried about other friends they have not connected with. He is upset such an amazing event has been forever changed.

"This is one of the truly special events in the country," Dr. Gordon said. "One of the things that makes it an unbelievable experience is the incredible support of the city and spectators that come out and to see one of the most heavily populated areas on the course in such a visible area like the finish line being involved is heartbreaking and hard to see.  Because this is an event that's supposed to be a celebration of a lot of people's hard work and the history of this event."

Dr. Gordon said they don't know much about the atmosphere in the city because police are just trying to keep everything secure.

"Quite honestly most of it is locked down," he said. "We're not excited about leaving the hotel.  It's certainly changed our perspective a little bit."
