Workers where officer was stabbed anxious about returning to work
MILWAUKEE - A 66-year-old Capitol Police officer, stabbed at the State Building in downtown Milwaukee, remains hospitalized. A spokeswoman from the Department of Administration says Greg Friberg is in stable condition with two stab wounds.
Employees of the state building recognize Friberg as one of the regulars, and describe him as a friendly guy. Employees remained cautious returning to work Thursday, one day after Friberg was stabbed on the 4th floor.
There were three counseling sessions available to workers, where counselors told them it's common to feel anxious after something like this.
Some workers are now calling for more security at the State Building, perhaps metal detectors, and Capitol police have enhanced patrols inside the building. Workers said it was good to see officers in the lobby, as well as on the 4th floor where the attack happened.
That floor has offices for the Internal Revenue Service and the State Lottery. A 25-year-old man from West Allis is in custody for the stabbing and is expected to be charged Friday.
