Oshkosh workers could get job retraining help
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) -- The hundreds of workers losing their jobs at Oshkosh Corp. could get some retraining from an area technical college.
Patti Jorgensen is vice president of student and community development at Fox Valley Technical College. She says the college gives priority consideration for classes, career workshops and other programs to workers who have been laid off.
Oshkosh Corp. announced Tuesday that it would lay off 900 workers this summer because of a continuing decline in military vehicle orders.
Jorgensen told the Oshkosh Northwestern for a story Thursday that when Ohio-based NewPage closed its Kimberly mill and laid off 600 workers in 2008, the college was among those offering job retraining help.
