NEW JERSEY - An Illinois man is facing charges in New Jersey for allegedly stealing $75,000 worth of cheese from Wisconsin.
According to WISC-TV, Veniamin Konstantinovich Balika, 34 of Plainfield, Ill., showed up at the K&K Cheese factory in Cashton with fake paperwork and loaded 42,000 pounds of muenster cheese onto his truck.
"This is the first time this has ever happened to us," K&K general manager Kevin Everhart told WISC. "The trucking company we contract with will take care of the money we lost, but it's still a shame. Still sad that this happened."
The company processes dairy products from Amish milk producers in the area. According to WISC, the company could not guarantee its safety, so it will be donated to charity if found to be okay.
