CVS employees told to share their weight with their company, or pay up
MILWAUKEE - CVS Caremark changed their policy to encourage employees to live healthier lives.
CVS employees on the company’s health insurance could face hefty fines if they don't reveal personal medical information.
“I don't think that any corporation has the right to tell any employee how healthy they have to be,” said customer Mary Kasal.
CVS wants to knows how much its employees weigh, their body mass index, even blood test results. Employees who don't fork over the information could pay up to a $600 annual penalty or a $50 monthly fine in their health coverage.
Julie Educate, another customer, says it’s a matter of privacy or privacy laws. In statement, the company defended it policy and maintains all information will be kept private and it wouldn't see the results.
The policy takes effect in May. CVS says will keep health insurance cost down by helping employees be healthier.
Smokers enrolled in CVS health coverage are also supposed to give up tobacco, or enroll in a stop smoking program by May, to avoid penalties.
