GREENFIELD - Police have arrested the man who reportedly robbed a bank on South 27th Street in Greenfield Tuesday morning.
According to Greenfield Police, just before 10:30 a.m., a suspect entered the Great Midwest Bank at 4775 South 27th St. and gave a note to the teller demanding money. The teller handed the suspect money and he fled on foot.
"An off-duty Milwaukee Police Officer was using the ATM in the parking lot of the bank at the time of the robbery and saw the suspect run from the bank and bank staff pointing at the suspect as he fled," said Greenfield Police Chief Brad Wentlandt. "The off-duty MPD officer followed the suspect in his personal vehicle and notified on-duty officers of the incident."
The off-duty officer eventually stopped, near 23rd and Layton, and took the man into custody without incident. He also found the money from the bank robbery.
"The Greenfield Police Department extends its gratitude to the Milwaukee Police Department and the brave off-duty officer who took swift action to apprehend a dangerous felon," said the Greenfield chief.
