Work on I-43 in Waukesha County begins Monday, Jan. 28
Starting Jan. 28, crews are set to begin construction on I-43 northbound between WIS 83 and WIS 164 in Waukesha County.
According to Michael Pyritz with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the highway was last resurfaced in the early 1990s and the pavement is in need of repair.
"This project will resurface the roadway, providing a better riding surface and also rehabilitate the following bridges within the project limits," said Pyritz, including:
Edgewood Avenue will be closed at I-43 beginning Feb. 25, after the opening of Oakdale, for approximately 11 weeks.
Oakdale Road will be closed at I-43 beginning Jan. 28 for approximately 4 weeks.
HiLo Drive will be closed at I-43 beginning Feb. 4 for approximately 4 weeks.
According to Pyritz, construction on I-43 will be staged to keep most lanes open during peak drive times. Lanes will be restricted during off-peak hours (southbound: 7 p.m. – 2 p.m., northbound: 9 a.m. – 5 a.m.)
"Periodic short-term ramp closures may be necessary to complete the work," said Pyritz. "At some point, traffic will be crossed over to the recently-completed southbound lanes to allow for 2 lanes of traffic in each direction."
The project is scheduled to be completed before Thanksgiving of 2013. Work on the southbound lanes was completed last year.
