Temps in Milwaukee dropping faster than ball on New Years' Eve

CREATED Dec. 31, 2012

MILWAUKEE - The New Year's Eve ball hasn't even started dropping but temperatures in southeastern Wisconsin already are.

We hit our high of 33 degrees in Milwaukee at 5am and temperatures have been falling since then as colder air spills in behind a cold front that passed through bringing us the cloud cover.

The winds will stay strong through the evening and couple that with overnight lows in the single digits and it will feel more like ten degrees below zero to five degrees above zero, so you will definitely need the layers if you are going out to enjoy New Year's celebrations.

We can't shake the chilly temperatures to start 2013, high temperatures will only be in the teens despite mostly sunny skies.

Wind chill values will stay in the single digits above and below zero because of the NW wind at 5-15 mph.

Tuesday night will be a near repeat of chilly temperatures with wind chill values again in the single digits below zero.

A southwest wind will help increase temperatures slightly for Wednesday but it will still be colder than average for January.

A few flurries are possible Wednesday night and into Thursday morning as a weak cold front moves through.

That will keep temperatures in the 20's through the rest of the week with quiet conditions.
