McCarren: Do Packers 'have firepower to be much more' after injuries?

CREATED Dec. 5, 2012

GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Packers are taking steps to solve some of their injury issues, with Ryan Grant reportedly coming in to replace James Starks in the running back rotation.

Even with that, Newsradio 620 WTMJ Packers color commentator and TODAY'S TMJ4/NBC26 reporter Larry McCarren says the starting lineup you'll see Sunday night against the Lions is dramatically different than what the Packers want, all because of huge injury issues.

"During the last game, I was thinking and I took a look at the starting lineup," explained McCarren on "Wisconsin's Morning News."

"Now we're closing in (to) over half of your preferred starters are not out there.  Hopefully, in the next couple weeks, they get Clay Matthews and Charles Woodson."

With that, the big question becomes how effective the Packers can be as they hit the playoff stretch?

"When's this team going to click?  When is it going to hit its stride?" asked McCarren.

"Does it have the firepower to be much more than what it is, a team that fights real hard, doesn't accept injuries as excuses, but as far as dominating people, maybe this is not the year for that?  Maybe (each game) is a trip to the dentist, and you fight and claw and somehow come out with a victory.  This team has done it eight times this year."
